Award Overview

This award is linked to the theme of the Special Conference and intended to honor the highest level of achievement in research or practice in the thematic area that is the focus of a special conference. It is only given when an appropriate honoree has been identified. Nominees are selected by Special Conference Program Chairs and approved by the Executive Committee of the SMS Board of Directors.

The recipient will receive an inscribed plaque and be recognized at the Special Conference and on the SMS conference website. In addition, the recipient will be invited to give a keynote, lecture, or otherwise contribute in a meaningful way to the conference program

Award Criteria:

  • The recipient can be a scholar or a practitioner, the award recognizes excellence in the application of theory and research in practice. These include but are not limited to contributions to knowledge through the extraction of learning from practice; authored scholarly works that have substantively affected the practice of management; and/or the integration of research and practice.
  • The recipient has demonstrated sustained leadership in practice and/or scholarly leadership in the thematic area that the Special Conference focusses on. The honoree has a record of publication and/or professional activity that demonstrates his/her work to be significant and with substantial impact.
